Joseph J. Rizzotto

B.A (Hons), M.A., LL.B., LL.M.

Joseph Rizzotto leads the Rizzotto Law Firm team with his vision of a professional personal injury law practice. With over 20 years of experience in personal injury law, Joseph Rizzotto’s guiding force and dedication to educating clients and empowering them to understand their rights has been the key to his success and the satisfaction of his clients.

Joseph represents victims in all areas of personal injury litigation, including motor vehicle collisions, wrongful deaths, slip/trip and falls, occupiers and premises liability, insurance and disability claims, products liability, professional negligence, victims of crime, dog related injuries, burn mishaps, and alcohol related injuries.

He has appeared at trials, arbitrations, hearings and appeals in the Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board and the Canada Pension Plan Review Tribunal. In addition to extensive advocacy and courtroom experience, Joseph has represented hundreds of clients at settlement conferences and mediations. It is a cornerstone of Joseph’s practice to focus on the entire dispute resolution continuum for the betterment and empowerment of his clients.

Joseph commenced his post-secondary studies at McMaster University receiving an Honours B.A. in 1973 graduating magna cum laude. Joseph was awarded the Honour M Award which recognized his volunteer contributions, leadership and special achievements in undergraduate extra-curricular activities. He went on to post graduate studies and obtained a M.A. in Political Science from Carleton University in 1983.

Joseph received his LL.B. from the University of Windsor Law School in 1991. He was presented the J.W. Whiteside Award as a member of the graduating class in recognition of his volunteer and extra-curricular services to the Faculty of Law, the legal community and the community of Windsor. Joseph was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1994. While practicing law and founding his law firm, Joseph continued his studies and was awarded a LL.M. (Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution) from Osgoode Hall Law School (York University) in 2008.

Joseph is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is past Chair of the Dispute Resolution Group Counsel Forum at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. As well, Joseph is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Advocates’ Society, the Toronto Lawyers Association, the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto and the Thomas More Lawyers Guild of Toronto.

Alfred T. May

B.B.A.(Hons), F.I.I.C., LL.B.

Alfred joined the Rizzotto Law Firm as a senior associate lawyer. Prior to his career as a lawyer, Alfred worked in the insurance industry for many years as a senior insurance adjuster for some of Canada’s largest insurance companies. Alfred then embarked on his career as a solicitor in 1998, working for insurance companies where he gained valuable experience working as defence counsel. Since 2004, he has restricted his legal practice to exclusively representing injured people and is dedicated to ensuring that clients receive fair compensation for their injuries. Alfred represents victims in all areas of personal injury litigation, and has experience appearing at all levels of Court in the Province.

Alfred is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Sofia Ali

Law Clerk

Sofia joined the Rizzotto Law Firm team in 2010. She has been working in the field of Personal Injury since 2005. She brings over 10 years of knowledge and experience of Accident Benefits and the SABS through the course of changes in legislation and its effects on prospective claimants. Sofia also brings extensive expertise and knowledge of tort law. She assists the lawyers with mediations, settlement negotiations, civil proceedings, client meeting and file summaries.

Sofia obtained her Diploma specializing in Professional Law Clerk Studies from Humber College in 2008. She is also fluent in Urdu and Hindi.

Marlena Basso

Law Clerk

Marlena joined the Rizzotto Law Firm team in 2015. She has been working in the field of Personal Injury since 1990. She brings over 25 years of knowledge and experience of Accident Benefits and the SABs through the course of changes in legislation and its effects on prospective claimants and innocent victims. Marlena also brings extensive expertise and knowledge of tort law. She assists the lawyers with day to day handling of a file, mediations, settlement negotiations, civil proceedings, client meetings and file summaries.

Marlena obtained her Diploma specializing in Professional Law Clerk Studies from Humber College in 1997.  She is also fluent in Italian.
